BURGERSDORP – A local entrepreneur has been forced to temporarily close one of his businesses following a burglary at a fast-food outlet in Burgersdorp.

The incident occurred in the early hours of Thursday, 15 January 2026, when the Burgersdorp branch of “Ka Crock”, one of the fast-food outlets under Hosi Ya Zambhana, was broken into.

According to Willie Gija Nkhwashu, founder and director of Hosi Ya Zambhana, the suspects made off with several pieces of equipment, including a double electric deep fryer, popcorn machine, chafing dishes, two chips cutters, stock, and various kitchen utensils. The shop was also vandalised during the break-in.

Nkhwashu said the burglary comes as another major setback for the business, which had already suffered losses due to heavy rains and prolonged electricity outages that affected operations for almost the entire month of December, disrupting trade during the festive season.

“This comes as another major setback following the one caused by heavy rains and lack of electricity for almost the whole of December, which halted the operation of the business over the festive season,” he said.

The matter has been reported to the Maake Police Station, and investigations are underway.

As a result of the incident, the Burgersdorp Ka Crock outlet will remain closed until further notice to allow police investigations and necessary repairs to take place.

However, Nkhwashu confirmed that the newly opened Gavaza branch, located next to Phangasasa High School, will remain operational from Monday, 19 January 2026.

Despite the setback, the entrepreneur remains determined.

“Entrepreneurship is not for the faint-hearted. In most cases, it’s a lonely journey full of challenges and setbacks. However, giving up is not an option. I will bounce back — I always do,” he said.
