ATOK – A vehicle that was swept away by strong floods in Atok Ga-Selepe after heavy rains on Monday, 1 December, has been recovered, but the driver remains missing.

According to early reports, a 31 year old believed to have been behind the wheel was inside the vehicle when it was washed away by the fast-moving water.

The car was later discovered in the Rapholo River, having been carried downstream from the point where it was initially swept away.

A vehicle attempting to cross the river was caught by strong currents. While a male passenger managed to escape and receive medical treatment, the driver remains missing.

The vehicle has been successfully retrieved by the dedicated search teams.

The SAPS Search and Rescue Unit, local security services, mine personnel (including drown pilots), and EMS are working tirelessly to locate the missing man.

Rescue teams, including local search units and emergency services, continue to comb the riverbanks and surrounding areas in an effort to locate the missing driver.

The search operation remains active, with authorities urging residents to stay clear of the river as conditions remain unsafe.
