MOKOPANE — Controversial Bolobedu South pastor, Thabang Malatjie, has been sentenced to one year imprisonment by the Mokopane Magistrate’s Court after pleading guilty to assault and malicious damage to property.

Malatjie was sentenced on Monday, 1 December 2025, following an incident in September involving his then-girlfriend, Dineo Shai.

According to the court, he assaulted her and damaged a company vehicle she was using at a lodge in Mokopane.

In addition to the charges he has already been convicted for, Malatjie is also facing separate cases, including attempted murder and pointing of a firearm.

He is expected to appear before the Tzaneen Magistrate’s Court on Friday, 5 December, in connection with an earlier incident in Lenyenye, during which the victim suffered injuries after hot water was allegedly used against her during an argument.

The situation reportedly escalated after Malatjie confronted her over messages on her phone indicating she intended to end the relationship. The victim later told authorities that he pleaded with her not to open a case.

Following her decision to separate from him, Malatjie allegedly continued to track her movements.

At one stage, he reportedly confronted her in Polokwane after obtaining her location, and later went to her rented place in Mokopane, where he continued attempting to reconcile.

Police investigations into the remaining charges continue, while the victim receives support to ensure her safety.
