POLOKWANE-Tropical storm Filipo is currently in Mozambique said to be headed southwest at 15km/h.

The storm is expected to enter South Africa’s system and will most likely affect the Lowveld of Limpopo and Mpumalanga. It will not reach cyclone strength but there will be heavy rainfall from Wednesday to Thursday.

Mozambique ravaged by powerful cyclones in recent years, and Filipo will bring heavy rains to the southern part of the country.

Filipo made landfall on Mozambique’s south-central coastline as a severe tropical storm, and the authorities said it may impact more than half a million people.

The storm’s centre struck north of the town of Inhassoro before 3 a.m. local time, according to satellite imagery published on Zoom Earth’s website.

Filipo may affect about 525,000 people, Mozambique’s National Institute for Disaster Management said.
