LILONGWE: Director for Public Prosecutions in Gauteng, Sibongile Mzinyathi was cross – examined by Prophet Shepherd Bushiri’s legal representative, Wapona Kita at the Lilongwe Magistrate’s office in Malawi on Monday.

This in connection to the extradition case involving leader of the Enlightened Christian Gathering – The Jesus Nation Church, Prophet Shepherd Bushiri and his wife Mary.

The couple fled from South Africa in November 2020 while on bail over alleged fraud and money laundering charges.

Taking to the stand in Lilongwe, Malawi, Mzinyathi was accused to have tampered with evidence to suit the narrative of South Africa.

Kita told the court that the documents that South Africa has presented has over 21 alterations from the original document which was initially submitted in 2020.

“The law says that the document which is due for authentication should be the original extradition request which they tendered in 2020. However, the document they have authenticated is not the original one. Furthermore, we have overwhelming evidence that the purported authenticated document has been tampered with and doctored to meet their narrative. We therefore question the authenticity of the documents,” said Kita

Prophet Bushiri and wife want the extradition request to be dismissed.

The cross -examination continues on Tuesday.
