JOHANNESBURG – Thousands of South Africans from diverse faith backgrounds have gathered at the FNB Stadium in Nasrec, Johannesburg, for the 2024 National Day of Prayer, hosted by the Motsepe Foundation. This annual observance, which encourages people of all religious affiliations to come together in prayer, is held to uplift the nation, its leaders, and its people.

The National Day of Prayer is a significant event in South Africa, providing an opportunity for unity and reflection. This year marks the fourth National Day of Prayer in the country, following the inaugural event in 2017. The last prayer day was held in 2019 before the COVID-19 pandemic paused the event for a few years.

Congregants from various churches and religious organizations have made their way to FNB Stadium, where they will join in prayers for peace, prosperity, and healing in the nation. The event is designed to foster solidarity among South Africans, regardless of their faith, as they unite for a common cause.

In preparation for the large crowd, several roads around the stadium have been closed to traffic. Gauteng Traffic Police have announced road closures on the Soweto and Golden highways, near Nasrec Road and Booysens Road. Visitors are urged to plan their routes in advance and to be mindful of traffic delays.

The Motsepe Foundation continues to play a crucial role in fostering national unity through initiatives like the National Day of Prayer, which brings South Africans together in times of challenge and celebration.

As the event unfolds today, the hope is that it will inspire a sense of collective purpose and spiritual renewal, reinforcing the strength of the South African community as it faces the future together.
