POLOKWANE – A tragic incident has left the community of Motserereng Village in Limpopo in shock after a couple was found dead in their home on Monday afternoon in what police believe to be a murder-suicide.

Limpopo police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba reported that the bodies of the couple were discovered around 2 pm. Preliminary investigations indicate that a heated argument between the couple escalated, resulting in the 49-year-old husband throwing boiling water on his 45-year-old wife.

“The victim sustained severe burn wounds on her body and succumbed to her injuries,” Ledwaba stated.

Following the tragic attack, it appears that the husband took his own life. “His body was found hanging in one of the rooms inside the house,” Ledwaba confirmed. A death note was found near the deceased, which is expected to provide further insights into the circumstances surrounding this harrowing incident.

Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, the Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service in Limpopo, expressed her sorrow over the incident and urged community members facing relationship challenges to seek professional help.

“Couples experiencing difficulties should seek professional assistance to avoid catastrophic consequences of this nature,” Lieutenant General Hadebe said.

Colonel Ledwaba assured that police investigations are ongoing to uncover more details about the incident. The community has been left reeling from the shock of the event, as authorities continue their work to piece together the tragic events leading to the deaths of the couple.

This heartbreaking occurrence underscores the urgent need for accessible mental health and relationship counseling services to prevent such tragedies in the future.
