Phalaborwa appointed 380 Environmental workers to clean up Phalaborwa

Ba-Phalaborwa Municipality Mayor, Cllr Merriam Malatji has on Wednesday handed over Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to 380 environmental workers to officially begin the work to clean Phalaborwa town and its surroundings.

These environmental workers were appointed last month through the partnership between Ba-Phalaborwa Municipality and the Department of Environmental Affairs and Fisheries to clean up Phalaborwa Communities to return Phalaborwa to its glory days as the cleanest town.

The PPE are sponsored by Foskor Mining company as part of its Social Labour Plan with Ba-Phalaborwa Municipality.

Mayor,  Malatji says this is to strengthen the cleaning and greening activity. “I am going to lead this cleaning campaign to mobilize communities to take action against littering and illegal dumping. We are advancing our plans of reclaiming our former glory as one of the cleanest towns in the Republic of South Africa” she said.

The Mayor further urged these environmental workers to ensure that the streets are clean and act as agents of waste management by continuously sharing with the rest of the community the importance of cleaning and recycling.

They are scheduled to begin on duty on February 1 2024.
