BA-PHALABORWA- The former mayor of Ba-Phalaborwa Municipality, Councilor Anna Sono, died in the early hours of Tuesday, January 19 after a short illness.
Cllr Sono formerly served as the mayor of Ba-Phalaborwa Municipality. She also served in several structures, from 2016, she was serving as a PR Councillor in the Ba-Phalaborwa Municipality, but also a representative in Mopani District Municipality.
Furthermore, she served as a member of the Mayoral Committee responsible for Community Services from 2016 until 2019. When she met her untimely death, she was the chairperson of the Ethics Committee in the Mopani District Municipal Council.
According to Executive Mayor Cllr Pule Shai, the sudden death of Cllr Sono had not only shocked the ANC, but also her family, relatives, the entire council, and even people from all over. “Cllr Sono is of a working-class upbringing and has known nothing else except serving our people at the level of our municipalities in various capacities,” Shai expressed.
On behalf of the leadership collective, the people of Mopani and the entire administration, the executive Mayor Cllr Shai, sends out heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, and members of her organization, the African National Congress.
“Our thoughts are with her family during this difficult time,” he concluded.
On behalf of Ba-Phalaborwa residents, employees, and stakeholders at large, Ba-Phalaborwa Municipality Mayor, Cllr Merriam Malatji wishes to sends her heartfelt condolences to the Sono family, relatives, friends, colleagues, and all those who knew her.
She said that Sono will be remembered for her endless efforts and selflessness in enhancing the lives of the people of Ba-Phalaborwa Municipality.
