Man arrested for assaulting for repeatedly hitting her a teenage daughter and dragging her along the ground

POLOKWANE – A 42-year-old man is expected to appear before the Mahwelereng Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, 07 January 2026, following his arrest for allegedly assaulting his 17-year-old biological daughter.

The arrest comes after a disturbing video circulated on social media and was reported to police by a concerned community member from Armoede Village, outside Mokopane, within the Mahwelereng policing area.

According to police, the footage shows a man physically assaulting a teenage girl, including repeatedly hitting her and dragging her along the ground. The incident reportedly occurred on Monday, 05 January 2026, at around 17:00.

Following investigations, police traced and arrested the suspect on Tuesday, 06 January 2026. The victim was assisted, and the case was transferred to the Mokopane Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit for further investigation.

The suspect has been charged with child abuse, assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm (GBH), and domestic violence. He remains in police custody pending his court appearance.

The Acting Provincial Commissioner of SAPS in Limpopo, Major General Jan Scheepers, condemned the incident, describing violence against children—especially by parents or guardians—as unacceptable and criminal.

He also praised the community member who reported the matter and encouraged the public to continue reporting abuse to protect women and children.

Police investigations are ongoing.
