LEBOWAKGOMO – Police in Lebowakgomo have arrested a 20-year-old female learner after she allegedly poured boiling water on a fellow learner during a school camp at a secondary school in Seleteng Village.

The shocking incident occurred on Sunday morning while learners were camping at the school to prepare for their final examinations.

According to preliminary investigations, the 19-year-old male learner was asleep inside one of the classrooms when the suspect allegedly accused him of touching her private parts. The victim reportedly denied the allegations, after which the suspect left the room but later returned with a kettle of boiling water and poured it over him.

The victim sustained severe burn injuries and was rushed to hospital, where he remains under medical care.

Police spokesperson confirmed that the 20-year-old suspect was arrested on Friday following an investigation and has been charged with Assault with Intent to Cause Grievous Bodily Harm (GBH).

She is expected to appear before the Lebowakgomo Magistrate’s Court on Monday.

Police have urged learners and school authorities to report conflicts or allegations of misconduct to relevant structures before resorting to violence.
