Middle Letaba Dam overflowing for the first time in 26 years

ELIM-Today, the Middle Letaba Dam reached 101% capacity for the first time in 26yrs. This historic event became an instant tourism attraction.

Located on the Middle Letaba River, 40 km east of Elim and 40 km west of Giyani serving irrigation and domestic needs for surrounding communities.

The dam has historically struggled with low levels, rarely reaching full capacity since its completion in 1984.

In May 2025, levels were critically low at approximately 8%.

So, many locals flocked to see the miracle. Take selfies and record the historic event. So that they may have proof that “they saw it”.
