TSIDINKO – A destitute family of five is appealing for assistance after their one-room shack was destroyed by heavy rains at Mogabe village in Tsidinko, Ga-Maake, under the Greater Tzaneen Municipality.
The Mathipa family, a mother and her four children, were left with nothing after floodwaters damaged their home and washed away most of their belongings. The family is now calling on Good Samaritans to assist with food parcels, school uniforms, and basic necessities as they attempt to rebuild their lives.
Speaking to Tzaneen Voice, Ward 35 councillor Ratopola confirmed that the family had previously been identified as beneficiaries of an RDP house.
“Fortunately, our ward committee had already identified and registered the family for an RDP house. Construction was underway, though the house was not yet completed. After this incident, we arranged for the family to move into the unfinished structure for safety,” said the councillor.

He added that he had contacted the contractor, who has committed to returning next week to complete the house. For now, the family is safe, although they remain in urgent need of support.
Most of the family’s food supplies, including maize meal and other essential items, were washed away by floodwaters. Community members and well-wishers are urged to assist with food donations and school-related items to help the family during this difficult time.
Those willing to assist are encouraged to liaise with local community leaders or the ward committee in Tsidinko, Ga-Maake.
