DIKGALOPENG – Limpopo Premier Dr Phophi Ramathuba has visited Naledi Ya Meso Secondary School in Dikgalopeng, under the Elias Motsoaledi Municipality in the Sekhukhune District, following the school’s shocking 0% pass rate in the 2025 matric examinations.

The visit forms part of the provincial government’s back-to-school campaign aimed at assessing challenges within the education system and restoring confidence in underperforming schools.

Naledi Ya Meso Secondary drew provincial attention after all 15 learners who were enrolled for matric in 2025 failed their final examinations. The results sparked widespread criticism directed at teachers, learners, and the broader community.

Premier Ramathuba acknowledged that the continued poor performance of the Sekhukhune South education district remains a serious concern for the provincial government, stressing that persistent underperformance cannot be ignored.

She confirmed that urgent interventions will be implemented at Naledi Ya Meso Secondary School to address the challenges that led to the dismal results.

Rather than condemning the school, the Premier chose to visit it with what she described as “love, hope, and encouragement,” engaging learners, educators, and the community on Thursday, 15 January 2026.

Premier Ramathuba emphasized that the school, which has relatively good infrastructure, will not be closed. Instead, it will be adopted and supported to improve its academic performance.

She further reassured remaining learners—particularly those whose parents cannot afford transport to other schools—that they will receive support from her office and the Limpopo MEC for Education, Ms Mavhungu Lerule-Ramakhanya.

The provincial government says the intervention at Naledi Ya Meso forms part of broader efforts to turn around struggling schools and restore confidence in public education across Limpopo
