GA-SEKGOPO – Shock and disbelief gripped the Ga-Sekgopo community after an unknown young boy was rescued from the Makhaneni River on Monday afternoon.

According to community members, the river was heavily flooded following recent rains when the child was spotted floating in the water. Brave residents acted swiftly and managed to rescue the boy before tragedy struck.

At this stage, the child’s identity and the whereabouts of his parents or guardians remain unknown.

The incident has raised serious concerns about child safety, especially during the ongoing rainy season when rivers and streams become extremely dangerous. Community members are appealing to anyone who may recognise the child or know his family to come forward.

Authorities and residents continue to urge parents and guardians to closely monitor children, particularly near rivers and flooded areas, to prevent similar incidents.
