PELANGWE VILLAGE – Two foreign nationals have been arrested for the alleged illegal mining and transportation of chrome in Pelangwe village, Ga-Sekhukhune.

The suspects, aged 37 and 38, were arrested on Wednesday, 17 December 2025, after police found them in possession of illicit chrome minerals. The arrests followed intelligence-driven operations that led law enforcement officials to intercept two white trucks that matched a description provided through intelligence reports.

According to police, the drivers were stopped and questioned about their cargo. During questioning, they admitted that they were transporting chrome without the required legal documentation. A thorough search of the trucks revealed that both vehicles were fully loaded with chrome, estimated to be worth approximately R250,000.

The suspects were immediately arrested and detained at Apel Police Station. They later appeared before the Sekhukhune Magistrate’s Court on Friday, 19 December 2025, where they were granted bail of R5,000 each.
