THEMBISA-Residents in Ivory Park and surrounding areas of Thembisa have been forced to rely on rainwater as taps remain dry in several communities, including Kaalfontein, Allandale and Ebony Park.

Following afternoon showers on Thursday, 18 December 2025, residents placed buckets, drums and dustbins outside their homes to harvest rainwater.

The collected water is being used for basic household needs such as flushing toilets, washing dishes and bathing as the water crisis persists.

The ongoing outage follows maintenance work by Rand Water. Johannesburg Water has confirmed that system recovery is progressing slowly and may take several days before full supply is restored.

In the meantime, affected residents continue to depend on water tankers, JoJo tanks and harvested rainwater to cope with daily water needs.
