RANDBURG – Tributes have poured in from across the country following the passing of MultiChoice security officer David Sejobe (49), who died after being fatally struck by a vehicle while cycling to work on Friday, 30 January 2026.

Sejobe, the seventh child of the Sejobe family, was born in Ha-Mashamba in the Vhembe District, Limpopo. He was a father of three and had been working at MultiChoice’s Randburg head office since 2015, where he served as a front-of-house security guard.

Over the weekend, social media platforms were flooded with messages of condolence and admiration for the man many described as warm, humble and inspiring.

David became widely known after a video of him explaining that he cycled daily from Orange Farm, south of Johannesburg, to Randburg for work went viral. He reportedly took up cycling to improve his health, as he was living with diabetes.

MultiChoice confirmed Sejobe’s passing in a statement, describing him as a valued and cherished team member.

“David joined MultiChoice in 2015 and, over the past decade, became a familiar and cherished presence to employees, visitors and members of the public. He was widely known for his professionalism, warmth and positive spirit, and for the genuine care with which he greeted and assisted everyone who came through our doors,” the company said.

David was also admired for his resilience and dedication to healthy living. An avid long-distance cyclist, he once rode nearly 600 kilometres overnight from Johannesburg to Venda and back to honour his late father, who taught him how to cycle. He also participated in several major cycling events and used sport to inspire others.

Colleagues and members of the public recalled his friendly greetings along Bram Fischer Drive, which became a daily highlight for many commuters. MultiChoice noted that his contribution extended far beyond his formal role, as he embodied values of respect, kindness and human connection.

“David will be remembered for his optimism, generosity of spirit and the lasting impression he made on colleagues, guests and the broader community,” the statement read.

MultiChoice extended its heartfelt condolences to the Sejobe family, friends and colleagues, adding that details regarding memorial arrangements will be shared in accordance with the family’s wishes.

David Sejobe’s passing has left a deep void, but his story, kindness and determination continue to inspire many.
