MAGANYA– Search operations are ongoing to locate a 22-year-old man who was swept away by floodwaters at the Mutale Bridge, situated between Tshanzhe and Mangaya in the Vhembe District.
The man, believed to be Lindelani Munyai, has been missing since Tuesday, 13 January 2026. According to his family, he slipped while attempting to cross the bridge and was carried away by the strong current.
Heavy rains continue to batter large parts of the province, causing rivers and streams to overflow, worsening the risk of flooding in low-lying areas.
Limpopo COGTA MEC Basikopo Makamu said authorities remain on high alert, with emergency teams and divers continuing their search efforts to locate Munyai.
Residents are urged to exercise extreme caution near rivers, bridges, and low-lying areas while the heavy rains persist.
