TZANEEN-People around the country have paid tribute to the late music icon Peta Teanet, who would have celebrated his 57th birthday today.
King of Shangaan disco as he was affectionately known, entertained the world with hits such as Khoma Maseve, Matswele, Maxaka and Vana throughout his career.
He was shot and killed on 13 July 1996 by a policeman during an argument at Bushbuckridge near Ackotnhoek in Mpumalanga Province.
Year after year, the Thapane-born legend churned out his accessible blend of traditional Shangaan rhythms moulded to a disco beat. Following in the footsteps of the late Paul Ndlovu, his musical mentor.

It was not only his voice that today made fans remember her as a legend, but also his dance moves, his ‘no-nonsense attitude and outspokenness.
Teanet was recently been honoured with a street name named after him in Diepsloot ext 2 Gauteng Province and his native municipality Greater Tzaneen Ward 11 has now changed its name to Peta Teanet Ward in honour of his contribution to the music.
As he would have celebrated his 57th today, fans including his family took to social media to honour their “Legend”
