NKUZANA – The lifeless body of a six-year-old girl was discovered floating in a pit toilet at Wisani Section, Nkuzana village outside Giyani, on Friday, 02 January 2026.
It is alleged that the child was playing with a group of other children outside the yard when she suddenly disappeared.
Moments later, her mother realised that the girl was missing and a frantic search was immediately launched by family and community members.
Tragically, the child was later discovered inside a pit toilet. She was removed from the pit and rushed to a nearby medical health centre, where she was certified dead on arrival.
The South African Police Service in Hlanganani, under the Mopani District, has registered an inquest docket to investigate the circumstances surrounding the untimely death.
Meanwhile, the Acting Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo, Major General Jan Scheepers, has urged communities and parents to always be vigilant and aware of the whereabouts of their children to prevent similar tragic incidents.
Police investigations are continuing.
