THOHOYANDOU: The Sibasa Regional Court has convicted and sentenced a 39-year-old Zimbabwean national to life imprisonment for the rape of his 13-year-old biological daughter at Phiphidi Village in the Vhembe District.
Witnesses testified that on 01 August 2020, the accused fetched his daughter from Zimbabwe to South Africa for the school holidays.
On their arrival in Limpopo, the accused began to have sexual intercourse with the victim. He further instructed her to remain silent and threatened to leave her in South Africa if she told anyone.
The accused would not allow the victim to play with other children. However, the neighbour with whom they were staying at their rental place noticed the child’s unusual behaviour.
She then informed the police. After thorough police investigations, the accused was arrested, and the minor victim was referred to Tshilidzini Thuthuzela Care Centre.
The accused’s name is withheld to protect the victim’s identity and prevent secondary victimisation.
