GIYANI – Police in the Mopani District are investigating a murder case following the fatal stabbing of a woman at Mapuve village outside Giyani.
The incident occurred on Sunday, 21 December 2025, at approximately 05h00. Police were alerted to a murder at a homestead in Mapuve village and immediately responded to the scene.
Upon arrival, officers were met by an elderly man, the owner of the homestead, who directed them to a hut on the premises. Inside the hut, police discovered the body of a woman lying on the ground.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the victim sustained multiple stab wounds to the upper body. The hut is reportedly occupied by the elderly man’s son, who was not present at the time of the incident.
Police allege that the deceased and the suspect were in a romantic relationship and shared a child. It is believed that an argument may have occurred prior to the incident.
The suspect is alleged to have fled the scene and reportedly left his cellphone behind. A sharp object, suspected to be the murder weapon, was recovered from a nearby room.
Emergency Medical Services attended the scene and declared the woman deceased. A postmortem examination will be conducted to determine the exact cause of death.
Police have launched a manhunt for the suspect, who remains at large. Investigations are ongoing, and anyone with information that may assist police is urged to come forward.
The incident has deeply affected the Mapuve village community, coming just weeks after another tragic case in which an 11-year-old boy was found deceased with stab wounds at his home while his mother was away.
