WISANI — A teenage boy who had been on the run following the fatal stabbing of his ex-girlfriend in Wisani village, outside Lenyenye, has been arrested after being spotted by a vigilant community member.
The suspect, identified as Matome Masiya, was allegedly seen travelling from Johannesburg back to his village at Rita when a community member recognised him and alerted the police, leading to his arrest.
According to police and witness reports, the incident occurred on Sunday night, 15 December 2025. The victim, Remember Kgothatso Mshwana, was reportedly attacked at about 22h00 while accompanying a friend to a local salon in Wisani village.
She sustained stab wounds to the stomach and was rushed to Dr CN Phatudi Hospital for urgent medical treatment.
Later that night, at around 02h00 on Monday, 16 December 2025, she was transferred to Letaba Hospital for further care. Despite efforts by medical personnel, Remember succumbed to her injuries and was certified dead at the Letaba Hospital casualty unit by Dr Makgato.
The deceased’s brother, Dumisani Mushwana, said the family is deeply traumatised and devastated by the tragic loss. He added that the family would release an official statement in due course.
While the exact motive for the murder is still under investigation, police indicated that domestic violence cannot be ruled out. The suspect had evaded arrest for several days before being traced through community assistance.
Remember, a learner at Sekaba High School, was laid to rest on Sunday, 20 December 2025, at Wisani Village. Police investigations continue, and the suspect is expected to appear in court soon on a charge of murder.
