THOHOYANDOU-A 19-year-old man was seriously injured after he was allegedly assaulted by community members at Ngovhela in Thohoyandou after being found attempting to steal a motor vehicle.
According to information received, residents in the area reportedly noticed the suspect trying to steal a car from a house. Community members then chased after him and managed to catch him before alerting the authorities.
Eyewitnesses allege that the young man was assaulted during the incident. By the time police arrived at the scene, he was found lying on the ground, struggling to move and unable to speak properly.
Police officers provided immediate assistance and arranged for emergency medical services. The injured man was treated at the scene before being transported to the nearest hospital under police guard for further medical care.
Police have confirmed that an investigation is underway to establish the full circumstances surrounding the attempted car theft and the assault.
Authorities have once again urged community members to avoid taking the law into their own hands and to report criminal activity to the police.
