LENYENYE-Schooling at Matlhari Secondary School was abruptly disrupted on Friday morning after several learners collapsed, allegedly due to a spiritual calling.

The incident, which took place at the school located in Xikwambana near Bridgeway outside Lenyenye began around 8:30 AM and affected both learnersvand teachers.

Reports indicate that approximately 20 learners were forced to abandon their classes as more pupils collapsed or reported feeling unwell.

The situation led to a disruption of learning, as the school community struggled to manage the unfolding crisis.

The Department of Education and EMS (Emergency Medical Services) were quickly alerted. Paramedics arrived at the scene to assess the affected learners

The parents of all the learners involved were notified and asked to come to the school to collect their children.

A district team has arranged for counseling support to help the affected students and staff members cope with the emotional toll of the incident.

In response, the parents of the affected learners have called for greater intervention, urging traditional leaders, pastors, the Education Department, and other community figures to step in and offer guidance and support.

The cause of the collapse is still under investigation, but many have speculated that the incidents could be linked to an ancestral calling or sighting, a phenomenon that is deeply rooted in certain cultural practices.

As of now, the school has been temporarily closed, and efforts are underway to ensure that all students receive the necessary care and attention during this distressing time.
