GA-MAAKE – Pothole patching on the badly damaged D3889 Maake Road has officially resumed, bringing some relief to motorists who frequently use the route.
On Wednesday, 8 October, a team from the Extended Public Works Programme (EPWP) under the Limpopo Department of Public Works, Roads and Infrastructure in the Mopani District was spotted working on the road.
The development was confirmed by Ward 33 ANC Branch Executive Committee under Chairperson Sekhwele Mokoena. In a statement released by the Lekgolo Maake Branch, it was announced that the team is currently preparing the road for comprehensive pothole patching.
“This work was promised by MEC Ernest Rachoene during our last stakeholder meeting held at the departmental offices in Polokwane on September 30, 2025,” the branch said.
The meeting brought together the department, represented by MEC Ernest Rachoene, traditional leaders from Ntona Lepulana, and representatives from the Taxi Association. Discussions focused on the urgent road infrastructure challenges affecting the community, specifically Road D4157 in Moime Village and Bakgaga Road D3889.
MEC Rachoene acknowledged the concerns raised by the community delegation and assured them that these issues would be considered during the upcoming financial budget deliberations scheduled for April next year.
He also committed to immediate interventions, including the deployment of Dikgerekgere for re-gravelling and grading of football grounds in the village.
Earlier this year, on 7 January, MEC Rachoene participated in pothole maintenance and patching on the D3889 stretch between Maake Plaza and Tickyline. However, the road has since deteriorated again, raising questions about the sustainability of the interventions.
