Police launch manhunt after G4S robbed of gold and copper at Tarentaal Airport

TARENTAAL – Police in Limpopo have launched an extensive manhunt for six armed suspects following a business robbery involving gold and copper at Tarentaal Airport in the Letsitele policing area, Mopani District.

The incident occurred on Friday, 06 February 2026, at approximately 09:30.

According to police reports, a 26-year-old male complainant from Gauteng Province was on duty to collect gold and copper parcels from officers of a reputable security company. While proceeding to a truck at the airport, he was allegedly accosted by six armed suspects wearing balaclavas. The suspects robbed him of gold and copper parcels weighing approximately 21.276 kilograms.

During the robbery, two security officers were disarmed of their service firearms. The firearms were later recovered after the suspects dropped them while fleeing the scene. Police also confiscated live rifle roundsbelieved to be linked to the suspects.

The suspects fled the scene in a grey Bantam bakkie and a white Hyundai Getz. Their identities are currently unknown.

Senior SAPS management, including the Acting District Commissioner Brigadier Mary Mashila, the District Detectives Commander, and the Station Commander, attended the scene. They were supported by a multidisciplinary task team comprising Provincial and District Task Teams, as well as the Local Crime Record Centre (LCRC).

A case of business robbery has been opened and will be investigated by the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (DPCI). Investigations are ongoing.
