GA-SEKGOPO – A 98-year-old woman from Mosalehlaba village in Ga-Sekgopo has tragically died after sustaining severe burn wounds when her house caught fire on Wednesday, 18 November 2025.
According to information from the community, the fire was started by a candle the pensioner was using during a scheduled load reduction.
It is believed the candle accidentally ignited a nearby chair, causing flames to spread rapidly inside the house.
Neighbours rushed to assist after noticing smoke, and the elderly woman was immediately taken to Kgapane Hospital. Despite efforts to save her, she was declared dead upon arrival due to the extent of her injuries.
The incident has left the community deeply saddened, with many calling for load reduction to stop immediately.
Authorities are expected to investigate the circumstances surrounding the fire.
