KGAPANE — Born and raised in Kgapane, Bolobedu, 37-year-old Portia Masoding is a fashion prodigy whose talent and dedication have earned her the Limpopo Fashion and Creative Design Award 2025.

Colour, couture and glamour took centre stage at the prestigious awards ceremony held at the Mercedes-Benz Mercurius Motor showroom in Tzaneen, where Masoding’s work was recognised among the best in the province.

In an interview with Tzaneen Voice, the seamstress reflected on her journey, which began nearly three decades ago.

“I started sketching at the age of 10. It was just a hobby until a teacher nurtured and encouraged me to develop the skill. I later decided to pursue fashion designing as a career,” said Masoding.

She described winning the award as the biggest highlight of her career so far. “It means I’m on the right track and that my clients are happy with what I do,” she added.

Masoding draws inspiration from renowned South African designer David Tlale and dreams of one day showcasing her designs alongside him.

“My wish is to become a household name and open my own boutique in the near future, especially since I already have a big clientele,” she said.

To aspiring seamstresses and fashion designers, Masoding offered words of encouragement, urging them not to be discouraged by negativity.

“There will be challenges, especially negative people along the way. Perseverance and patience are key. Above all, trust in God as the source and foundation of everything,” she concluded.
