Makhushane Village – A 26-year-old man has been arrested and charged with the murder of his 26-year-old girlfriend from Nyakelang Section One, Makhushane Village, Phalaborwa.
Police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba said the suspect was apprehended after members of the community alerted the police about a man allegedly assaulting his girlfriend while she was walking along the street.
The following morning, police were called to the victim’s house after a neighbour reported hearing screaming from the previous night into the next day.
The neighbour suspected that the victim might have been fighting with her boyfriend. On arrival, police knocked on the door, and while waiting for a response, the suspect ran out of the house.
With assistance from community members, police pursued and apprehended the suspect. Upon returning to the house, they found the female victim on her bed with visible bruises on her face and head injuries.
Emergency medical services were summoned, but the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
The motive behind the incident is currently unknown, and police investigations are ongoing.
The suspect is set to appear before Namakgale Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, 17 December 2025, facing charges of murder.
