LIMPOPO – Traffic volumes on the N1 from Gauteng heading towards Polokwane continue to surge as the first batch of holidaymakers and travellers make their way into Limpopo and neighbouring tourist destinations.
According to traffic authorities, major toll plazas along the busy N1 corridor — including Pumulani and Carousel — are recording a significant spike in vehicle numbers. This has resulted in long queues and slow-moving traffic in several sections of the route.
Some motorists are travelling to visit family for the festive season, while others are heading to Polokwane for major events such as the Zamalek vs Kaizer Chiefs match at Peter Mokaba Stadium and the 17th Annual SAPA Yopa Rally.
Current traffic flow:
-
Pumulani Toll Plaza: 2 349 vehicles per hour
-
Carousel Toll Plaza: 1 834 vehicles per hour
Traffic officials urge motorists to remain patient, keep safe following distances, and expect delays as congestion is likely to continue throughout the day.
