GIYANI-The 37-year-old accountant, Matimu Maluleke says the Phalala grocery scheme was created because she noticed that most families have funeral policies for their loved ones but their policies are not enough to cover groceries and catering during those difficult times.
She founded the Grocery Scheme in 2020 in her home village Bon’wani in Giyani to help people especially those who are working away from their villages to plan ahead when it comes to groceries during the hard times of bereavement.
She says the business was opened to create a sense of community for the bereaved during their most fragile and emotional state.
“Not only are the groceries & catering taken care of you also get a jojo water tank, mobile toilet, mobile fridge and friendly faces to help prepare amazing meals for those who have come to pay the last respect to the family of the deceased,” she said
“There is an After Tears package which includes a Dj, a braai for 50 patrons, 5 bottles of spirits and 20×25 packs of ciders/beer cans. Matimu has done her very best to ensure that the packages are affordable and cover all ages” she added
Maluleke strives to simplify the admin that accompanies grief in this day and age.
They have offices in Phalaborwa, Malamulele, Elim, Polokwane, Thohoyandou and Pretoria. They service provinces such as Limpopo, Gauteng, Mpumalanga and North West. Their packages offer groceries, a chef& assistants, a working group, a mobile fridge, a mobile toilet and a water tank.
“These packages are available for funerals, after tears and unveiling. So far the response of people has been overwhelming. People are joining in numbers” She added
