GA-SEKGOPO – Four women have died in a tragic bus accident that occurred late on Saturday evening, 09 August 2025, on the R81 in Sekgopo, under the Greater Letaba Municipality.
According to Limpopo Department of Transport and Community Safety spokesperson, Tidimallo Chuene, preliminary reports suggest that the bus driver lost control of the vehicle, causing it to overturn.
Sadly, four women were declared dead at the scene. Eight passengers sustained serious to moderate injuries, while 45 others, including the bus driver, suffered minor injuries.
Emergency services transported the injured to Kgapane Hospital, Mankweng Hospital, and Van Velden Hospital for urgent medical attention. The exact cause of the crash is under investigation.
MEC for Transport and Community Safety, Violet Mathye, conveyed heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with them during this time of immense grief. We also wish those injured a full and speedy recovery. On this sombre note, we urge all road users, particularly public transport operators, to exercise extreme caution, strictly obey road rules, and prioritise passenger safety. Let us work together to ensure every journey ends with the safe arrival of all travellers,” she said.
