SABIE : A ranger has been admitted to hospital after sustaining serious injuries following an attack from a Buffalo.
The incident took place at Pretoriuskop Section, near the Sabie River in Mpumalanga.
The ranger was on patrol with his colleague when the animal charged at them from nearby bushes.
“The injured ranger managed to hold onto the horns of the animal until his colleague fired shots and put down the animal,” said South African National Parks spokesperson Ike Phaahla.
“The ranger on site placed an emergency call after which their colleague was immediately attended to by a local doctor and stabilised, and thereafter airlifted by helicopter to a nearby medical facility where he is receiving further medical attention.”
Phaahla said the animal was euthanised and investigation into the incident will be conducted.
