Dr Danny Mokumo laid to rest

DENDRON-Throngs of people came out to pay their last respect to the late Mokopane Hospital Senior Clinical Manager and Provincial Co-ordinator of Rural Health Matters Dr Danny Mokumo when was being laid to rest in his hometown of Dendron.

Dr Danny Mokumo died last week in a motor vehicle accident with a relative next to The Ranch resort.

Dignitaries present at the funeral were Limpopo Health MEC, Dr Phophi Ramathuba, MEC of Economic Development and Tourism, Rodgers Monama, ANC Treasurer-General, Dr Gwen Ramokgopa.

Speaker after speaker described Dr Mokumo as an outstanding young man who played a central role in changing the health conditions of the people and improving their quality of life.

Dr Mokumo joined the department as an intern doctor stationed at Mokopane Hospital in 2015. He went on to do his community services at Thabamoopo Psychiatric Hospital. He was appointed a medical officer at W.F. Knobel Hospital. Due to his brilliance and diligence, he was appointed in 2018 as the Senior Clinical Manager of Mokopane Regional Hospital, making him the youngest appointed senior clinical manager in the province at the time. Though he was young, he rose to the occasion and brought stability to the leadership and clinical governance of the hospital.

Health MEC Dr Phophi Ramathuba described said that the passing of Dr Mokumo’s passing has torn her apart and left her devastated. She said this is an immense loss to the people of Limpopo province. Death has once again robbed us of one of our shining stars. Dr Mokumo was not only a capable young doctor, but he was a passionate doctor who loved the people of his province. He lived, dreamt and breathed rural health.  His passing is just too painful to even contemplate.
