THOHOYANDOU– The Economic Freedom Fighters Youth Command (EFFYC) has emerged as the preliminary winner of the University of Venda (UNIVEN) Student Representative Council (SRC) elections held on Thursday, September 20, 2025.

According to the preliminary results, EFFYC received 6,077 votes, followed by the South African Student Congress (SASCO) with 4,303 votes. Other participating student organizations include MKSM with 715 votes, ASBC with 225 votes, and SCO with 371 votes.

UNIVEN confirmed that the results are preliminary and still subject to verification by the university’s Electoral Committee.

In a statement, the university said:
“We congratulate all the candidates and thank the entire student body for their active participation in strengthening student democracy at UNIVEN.”

The election sets the stage for student political movements to lead campus governance during the 2025/26 academic year. While EFFYC secured the top spot in the preliminary count, SASCO, MKSM, and the Abantu Batho Student Congress (ASBC) remain significant players, highlighting the competitive nature of the student political landscape.

Voting officially closes at 23:00 tonight, after which the Electoral Committee will confirm the final results.
