RANDBURG – The BackaBuddy fundraising campaign established in memory of the late David Sejobe (49)has reached an extraordinary milestone, raising more than half a million rand as people from across South Africa and around the world continue to donate towards his funeral and to support his family.

The campaign was launched on 31 January 2026 by Sandra Radebe, who initially hoped to raise R20 000 to assist David’s wife and children. The target was quickly surpassed, with the total climbing over R500 000, reflecting an overwhelming outpouring of compassion and solidarity.

At least 1 832 people have contributed to the campaign so far.

David Sejobe, a beloved security guard at MultiChoice head office, tragically lost his life after being fatally struck by a vehicle while cycling to work. His death sent shockwaves through colleagues, friends, and the broader community.

As grief continues to spread, South Africans and beyond borders have responded with remarkable generosity. Flowers, handwritten notes, and tributes continue to be laid outside the MultiChoice building, while passing motorists hoot in salute as a sign of respect.

In the BackaBuddy campaign, Sandra described David who had worked at the MultiChoice offices since 2015 as a source of encouragement, light, and positivity, saying he had a way of “turning ordinary moments into meaningful human connections.” She further explained that the funds would assist with funeral and memorial service expenses, and emphasised that Mrs Sejobe and her children are the sole beneficiaries of the donations.

At the time of publication, the total amount raised stood at R513 153, a powerful testament to the impact David Sejobe had on the lives of many.
