MOIME VILLAGE – Police are currently searching for a suspect involved in an attempted rape near Moime village, targeting individuals in the vicinity of a cemetery accessible via a gravel road, just past the Crist Lord Ministry Church outside Lenyenye in Greater Tzaneen.
According to the victim’s account, a local taxi driver intervened after hearing her cries for help. The woman was found on the street, naked and seeking assistance, having fled from the cemetery with wounds on her upper body.
The incident occurred around 10 PM on Friday, April 25th. The woman was traveling from the Lenyenye center during a period of load shedding, resulting in darkness that hindered her ability to identify the assailant. She was carrying an empty 9-liter bucket, as she sells boiled eggs and peanuts at the Lenyenye center. The suspect allegedly grabbed her and dragged her into the cemetery’s dark bushes.
The victim described her attacker as a man wearing black jeans and a black top. She alleges that he forced her into the cemetery grounds with the intent of sexual assault.
During the ordeal, he reportedly used a panga to inflict wounds on her upper body, seemingly in an attempt to destroy evidence.
Following this incident, residents are being cautioned against walking alone at night, particularly during load shedding periods.
Police are urging anyone with information that could aid in the investigation to come forward.
