BURGERSFORT-A 21 man from Ribacross in Burgesfort has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for murdering his pregnant girlfriend.
The court heard that on 13 February 2021, the accused, Gabriel Tailor Malepe took the victim to his residence and during the night she was severely assaulted after being accused of cheating by the accused.
The next day, the victim went home as she was not staying far from her boyfriend’s place. On 17 February 2021, the victim’s mother noticed the injuries on her head and bruises on the neck and abdomen.
She immediately took her to the hospital where she, unfortunately, succumbed to her injuries.
The case was investigated by Sergeant Lerato Rosemary Lefala who opposed bail from the day she affected the arrest until Friday, October 28 when the High court sentenced the accused to 15 years imprisonment.
The accused was also declared unfit to possess a firearm.
The Provincial Commissioner of Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has welcomed 15 years of imprisonment handed down by the Limpopo Division of the High Court in Polokwane.
