MAJOSI VILLAGE-Two male suspects have been arrested for their alleged involvement in a brutal mob attack that resulted in a 43-year-old woman being set alight, along with her house, in Majosi village, located in Mopani District.
The incident, which occurred on Wednesday, October 16, 2024, at around 15:00, has sent shockwaves through the community.
According to local authorities, a group of five men and one woman reportedly descended on the victim’s home in Khawulani Section, Hlanganani precinct, in search of her husband.
Upon discovering that the husband was not present, the attackers turned their fury on the woman, setting both her and her home on fire before fleeing the scene.
The victim sustained severe burn injuries and was immediately rushed to the hospital for medical treatment.
On Saturday, October 19, 2024, a multi-disciplinary police operation involving the Hlanganani Police, Vala Umgodi Task Team, Mopani Tracking team, and Public Order Policing units from Giyani, Thohoyandou, and Makhado, led to the successful arrest of two suspects.
A 32-year-old man, believed to be the ringleader, was apprehended at his home in Majosi village at around 04:00. His 31-year-old accomplice was later arrested in Masiya village.
Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, the Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo, praised the swift action of the various teams involved in the arrests. She urged law enforcement to continue pursuing the remaining suspects.
The arrested men are scheduled to appear in the Tiyani Magistrate Court on Monday, October 21, 2024, where they will face charges of attempted murder and arson. The investigation into the incident remains ongoing.
