MUSINA-Two foreign nationals, aged 32 and 50, are set to appear in the Musina Magistrate’s Court after they were found in possession of dozens of Adidas shoes stolen during a truck hijacking in Gauteng.
The pair were arrested on Friday afternoon in Musina, Limpopo, following a coordinated operation by the provincial organised crime investigation unit and a logistics company from Gauteng.
Limpopo police spokesperson, Colonel Malesela Ledwaba, confirmed that the truck, carrying Adidas shoes worth millions, was hijacked in Putfontein, Gauteng, in September 2024.
The intelligence-led operation led officers to a wholesale supermarket in Musina, where 85 pairs of Adidas shoes, valued at R60,000, were recovered.
“The suspects were arrested at the scene after they failed to provide a valid explanation for their possession of the stolen items,” said Colonel Ledwaba.
The two men will appear in court on charges of possession of suspected stolen property on Monday.
Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, Limpopo’s Provincial Commissioner of Police, welcomed the arrests and commended the teamwork of the law enforcement agencies involved. She urged investigators to continue pursuing leads to apprehend any remaining suspects connected to the hijacking.
Police have appealed to the public for information that could aid in the investigation. Anyone with knowledge about the case is encouraged to contact Crime Stop at 08600 10111 or use the My SAPS App.
