MOIME VILLAGE-The Rahlano family from Moime village outside Lenyenye under Greater Tzaneen is grappling with heartbreak after discovering that the tombstone of their loved one had been vandalized.

The shocking discovery was made on Sunday when the family visited the graveyard to clean the site, a routine they perform to honor their late family member.

The tombstone, which once stood as a symbol of remembrance and respect, was found damaged, with parts of it missing.

The family suspects the act of vandalism was carried out by individuals seeking to profit from selling the slabs used in constructing tombstones.

“We are deeply hurt by this act of disrespect. This tombstone represented the love and honor we had for our family member. To see it destroyed is devastating,” said a grieving family representative.

The Rahlano family is now appealing to the community to assist in finding those responsible.

They urge anyone who might have information or noticed suspicious activities around Motjeteng to come forward.

“If anyone is approached by someone selling slabs or tombstone materials, we ask that they report it to us or to the authorities immediately,” the family pleaded.

The incident has left the community outraged, with many calling for stricter security measures to be implemented at graveyards to prevent such desecrations in the future.

Police are reportedly investigating the matter, and the family is hopeful that those responsible will be brought to justice.

For now, the Rahlano family continues to mourn not only the loss of their loved one but also the desecration of their final resting place, a wound that will take time to heal.
