MAGOEBASKLOOF – Tragedy struck on the R71 in Magoebaskloof on Saturday, 23 August 2025, when a taxi crash claimed one life and left 21 others injured.
At approximately 15h22, local emergency services Evac911 responded to reports of a taxi rollover near Magoebaskloof Mountain Lodge. On arrival, paramedics found multiple casualties scattered at the scene.
One person sustained fatal injuries and was declared dead on the scene, while 21 passengers suffered injuries ranging from minor to serious.
After being stabilized, all injured patients were transported to various hospitals for further medical care.
Authorities have urged motorists to exercise caution when travelling on Magoebaskloof, a road notorious for its sharp bends and steep descents.
Investigations into the cause of the accident are ongoing.
