NKOWANKOWA-A group of matric pupils from Bankuna High School in Greater Tzaneen have reportedly been turned away from school today.
This after the school reportedly initiated a R50 fee for those who fail to submit school work on time.
This fee, according to parents, is one of many “ludicrous” payments that the school is imposing on them. Failing which, learners are not allowed to be on the school premises.
“Our children were turned away because they failed to pay the R50 for late submission of homework. There are other fees that are imposed on poor parents by the school. We are now obligated to pay for the most basic things. What is free education. Someone must explain,”said a parent.
The headmaster of the school known as ma’am Mkhari was contacted, and she said that the allegations were unfounded.
“Those are lies. The school does not know anything about this,”.
The Department of Education promised to investigate this matter.
