MASHASHANE – Police have arrested a 56-year-old man following a tragic shooting incident in which his 17-year-old son was killed and his wife and another son were injured in Mandela Village, Ga Mashashane, Limpopo.
According to police reports, the incident occurred in the early hours of Thursday, 01 January 2026, at around 02:00.
The suspect allegedly found his wife sitting with a neighbour before returning home, where an argument ensued. The man was reportedly visibly intoxicated at the time.
Their two sons, aged 17 and 20, attempted to intervene and calm the situation. However, the suspect allegedly became aggressive, produced his licensed firearm, and opened fire.
The 20-year-old son sustained a gunshot wound to the right hand, while the wife was shot in the thigh. Tragically, the 17-year-old son was shot in the head and died instantly at the scene.
After the shooting, the suspect fled on foot but was later located at a local primary school, where he was hiding. Police allege that during his arrest, the suspect attempted to confront officers by pointing a firearm and was shot in the hand.
He was immediately arrested and is currently receiving medical treatment in hospital under police guard. Investigations are ongoing, and the suspect is expected to appear in court once medically fit.
