HOEDSPRUIT – The lifeless body of a 45-year-old male suspect who allegedly shot and killed his 44-year-old wife and 36-year-old sister-in-law was found at his home in Sedawa outside Hoedspruit with bullet wounds after he reportedly took his own life.
According to police reports, the tragic incident began on Saturday, 18 October 2025, at about 12:00 in Bochabela, where the man opened fire on the victims, killing his wife and her sister, and injuring a 34-year-old sister-in-law.
Police on patrol received information about a shooting incident at Mabins B village and rushed to the scene. On arrival, they were met by the victims’ brother, who pointed out the lifeless bodies of his two sisters, both with multiple gunshot wounds.
It is alleged that the suspect arrived at the victims’ residence, parked his vehicle outside, and unexpectedly opened fire. During the attack, the third sister-in-law managed to run for safety but was shot in the stomach and later taken to a local hospital for medical attention.
Following the attack, the suspect fled the scene. He was later found at his residence in Sedawa, where he had allegedly shot himself with his firearm.
The motive behind the shootings is currently unknown, and police investigations are ongoing.
The Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe, strongly condemned the incident, urging families to resolve domestic problems through dialogue rather than violence.
“Domestic-related problems should be discussed and resolved amicably rather than through violence, as innocent lives are being unnecessarily lost,” said Lieutenant General Hadebe.
