MUSINA – A significant seizure was made along the Limpopo River when soldiers stationed in Musina intercepted a group of individuals suspected of smuggling goods.
While on a routine foot patrol, “Platoon 1 of Bravo Coy” noticed a group of people loading large carrier bags into a white Toyota Quantum panel van, which had been hidden in the bushes.
Upon spotting the soldiers, the suspects quickly abandoned the bags and fled across the border into Zimbabwe.
A subsequent search revealed 10 Master boxes of Remington Gold Cigarettes, valued at R218,520 by Customs.
In addition, the Toyota Quantum panel van, worth R450,000, was confiscated for its involvement in the illicit activity. The total value of the seized goods reached R668,520.
Colonel Dikgabane Herold Tladi, Officer Commanding Joint Tactical Headquarters Limpopo, commended the team for their quick and effective action in intercepting the illegal shipment.
