BURGERSDORP — The lifeless body of a 62-year-old woman was discovered in the Masehlana River at Madawa Village, outside Burgersdorp, on Friday, 26 December 2025, at approximately 11:35.
According to police reports, officers responded to information about an unknown African female found dead in the river. Upon arrival, police found community members gathered at the scene, where one resident pointed out the body.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the deceased was wearing only a T-shirt. Her shoes and other clothing items were found scattered nearby. Police further noted that she was bleeding from the mouth and nose.
Further inquiries revealed that the woman was last seen on Christmas Day, 25 December 2025. She reportedly told family members that she was taking her grandchild to the child’s mother in Madawa Village.
After allegedly leaving the child at the homestead, she departed but never returned home.
The suspect is currently unknown, and police investigations are ongoing.
