SEKGOSESE –After weeks of legal wrangles and tense stand-offs between the Raphahlelo Traditional Council and the Mamphye family, the late Koko Mampye Makoma Esther, who passed away on September 6, 2025, will finally be laid to rest today, Saturday, September 20, in Raphahlelo village, Sekgosese.
The burial comes after the Raphahlelo Traditional Council obtained an interim interdict against Mohale Mamphyeand his family, preventing the burial of his mother on September 13, 2025.
The Council insisted that the family settle long-standing debts before allocating a grave site.
Kgošikgadi Raphahlelo and the Royal Council demanded the payment of R20,000 in outstanding debts.
The court ruling sided with the Royal Council, ordering Mohale Mamphye to also pay legal costs, in addition to fines imposed for unauthorized grave digging.
The Traditional Council further charged the family R6,000 for trespassing after they dug a grave without permission.
The family complied with the directive, sealing the grave as instructed.
Speaking to the media, Nduna Hlengani Rivembe confirmed that the fines were settled on September 19, 2025, and a proper burial site was allocated to the family.
“The damages have been paid, and the family has now been allocated a site to prepare a resting place for their mother,” he said.
The conclusion of this matter has brought relief to both the grieving family and the local community, who had watched the dispute delay Koko Mampye’s dignified send-off.
